About Art Platform — Los Angeles
The third edition of Art Platform – Los Angeles, the modern and contemporary art fair, will take place 26 – 29 September 2013 at the historic Barker Hangar located at the Santa Monica Air Center, West Los Angeles’ premier airport for private aviation. Art Platform features approximately 100 extraordinary local and international galleries, special exhibitions by individual artists, leading non-profit organizations, alternative art spaces and more.
Los Angeles is a global center of cultural production, with a wealth of outstanding museums, exceptional galleries, esteemed art schools, renowned collections and working artists and curators. Art Platform is committed to engaging and expanding the immense art community already existent in the region through its presentation of local and international galleries, extensive VIP Program, stimulating Open Platform speaker series, Museum Group Itineraries and special programming.
Not only is the Barker Hangar located just minutes from world-renowned art institutions such as the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Santa Monica Museum of Art and The Broad Art Foundation, the 35,000 square foot hangar boasts an additional 97,000 square feet of exterior areas, imbuing the fair with a palpable sense of space so native to Southern California.
In creative collaboration with architects Frederick Fisher and Partners, Art Platform 2012 constructed a distinctly Southern Californian layout that utilized an abundance of natural light and open air to dramatically change the space of the well-known event venue. Art Platform will once again partner with Frederick Fisher and Partners in 2013 to develop yet another exciting, dynamic transformation of the Barker Hangar that makes a both beautiful and effective environment for viewing art.
Art Platform enjoys the remarkable support of celebrated museums and non-profit organizations of greater Los Angeles. In response to these relationships Art Platform annually hosts a Benefit Preview for one of the many significant cultural institutions in the region.
