VOLTA NY

March 8 - March 11, 2012
7 W 34th Street
New York City

Introduced stateside in March 2008 as a partner to the prestigious Armory Show,  VOLTA NY was conceived as a tightly-curated, solo project fair highlighting the best of today’s cuttingedge art to complement its more established sibling. Both fairs work closely together, sharing VIP programs, the panel series and shuttle buses.

“The edgiest branch of Merchandise Mart Inc’s multi-national fair business," according to Art in AmericaVOLTA NY offered the chance to find plenty of emerging talent and riskier proposals. "VOLTA was also an excellent venue to discover artists still underrepresented in the United States.”

The intimate venue means a restricted and choice selection of only 83 galleries, while the solo format offers a deeper exploration into individual artist’s work and, as such, is highly-praised by collectors as a relief from the usual overstimulation of the traditional art fair format. Since the artists in this context are often in attendance, curators have equated a visit to VOLTA NY as an intense series of valuable of
studio visits.

"There was a constant river of top collectors and curators filling the booth and a return to the enthusiasm and energy of pre-crisis days," said Hamish Morrison, Owner of Hamish Morrision Galerie, Berlin . "Time and time again, people spoke of the refreshing atmosphere at VOLTA which has establisheditself as one of the most consistent and high-quality of the New York art fairs."
